Vegas Hospitality Design Expo

We had a fabulous time in Vegas at the Hospitality Design Expo.  We had the honor of dining at The Mix, the beautifully designed restaurant in The Delano Hotel.  Celebrity chef, Alain Ducasse, was sooo fabulous!  We were the guests of our favorite lighting consultant, Jonathan Larkin, of Hospitality Lighting Management.  Thank you for a special night!

Fabulous meal at The Mix!

Update Any Area of Your Home with a Fun, Fabulous, Inexpensive Lighting Product

I recently ordered these fabulous instant pendant light fixtures for a couple of areas in my home. They are reasonably priced and super easy to install. I installed both areas in under an hour. It actually took more time to unpack the pendant fixtures that to install them. If you can change a light bulb, you can install them. You do not need an electrician. You simply remove the light bulb from your recessed lighting fixture, screw the pendant fixture in and wrap the cord around the handle to the desired length, loosen the bottom screw on the plate, push the plate to the ceiling and re-tighten. The hardest part of the installation was getting the pendants at the same height, but I was able to make adjustments and get them installed. I absolutely love how they create an instant warm and cozy feeling to the spaces!

Thoughts from my Gulf Coast Tourism talk.

Hernando Lobby in progress

Hernando Lobby in progress

As I reviewed in my tourism talk on the Gulf Coast last month, the tourism industry and the hospitality industry are on fire right now.  We are very busy with hotels around the country.  It is quite exciting.  There were 3 points that I wanted to stress in my talk.

1. High Tech.  If you ask what the traveler is looking for now, it is simply a place to pug in!  Your hotel room MUST have lots of outlets – right?  In the head board is a wonderful place for them.  We ALL travel with an I-Phone, an I-pad, and maybe a lap top.  We need juice!  and WiFi!  Along with this need comes the design of interactive furniture and TVs.  The future is here.  No doubt about it.

2.  Tell A Story.  All of our hotels tell a story.  The guest wants to know about the local, or the owners, if a B&B, or the history.  It is our job as the designer to find the story and tell it visually.  I love that part of our process.

3. Classic and Hip.  We must keep our designs classic so they stay relevant.  But we also must keep up with the styles – OR stay ahead of them.  I am ALWAYS watching.  Always paying attention to fashion, news, art etc., for ideas.

And by the way – the Hernando Hotel is finally about to open!  progress shot above.

TRANSFORM YOUR EXTRA SPACE INTO AN OUTDOOR LIVING AREA YOU CAN USE ALL YEAR.

Creating an outdoor living area that the entire family can use may be easier than you think.  Simply add some soft seating around a natural gathering point. A fire place or cooking area will invite residents and visitors to use the space.  Using natural materials such as wood and stone will help create a natural transition between indoor and outdoor as well as blend with the natural décor.  Whether for relaxation or entertaining an outdoor living area will transform your space into a family friendly area that can be used all year long.
